About the project

Usually, I built stores using existing Shopify themes, adding adjustments and custom blocks when needed. While effective, this always limited creativity. To expand what I could offer clients, I decided to design and code a fully custom theme myself. This gave me complete control over how the store looks, feels, and functions - opening the door to outstanding, brand-driven online stores.

Project plan

The approach was to first create a clear design system in Figma, where every style and element could be easily reused. Then, I turned that design into a custom Shopify theme using clean, reusable code and modern tools. After development, I tested the theme thoroughly.

Project process

I began with design. In Figma, I created a modern, clean system that defined the look and feel of the entire store. Every page and section followed a consistent style. The design of the store is a very important part of an eCommerce business - it directly impacts brand memorability, trust, engagement & conversion rates among customers.

Once the design was ready, I moved to development. Instead of modifying an existing template, I built the theme entirely from scratch. This made it possible to control every part of the user experience and make it as smooth as possible. At the same time, I set up the theme in a way that simplifies content updates and management for the store owner. I also followed best code practices to ensure that the website loads quickly, is accessible to people using assistive technologies, and and can be easily extended with new functionality.

The final stage was testing and optimization. I checked the store thoroughly across different devices and handled potential edge cases to make sure everything worked reliably.

I also proved my ability to design and develop fully custom Shopify stores without being limited by pre-built themes, giving businesses the ability to stand out and sell even more.
